A chassis built by PACE Innovations in 2021, the Gen3 Ford Mustang prototype was the first Ford to be built ahead of the implementation of Gen3 regulations to the Supercars Championship from 2023. The car undertook all development testing for Supercars’ Gen3 program, with Ford Homologation Team Dick Johnson Racing managing development for the Blue Oval.

Owned by Supercars, the prototype Gen3 Ford Mustang is currently located at Supercars’ technical centre on the Gold Coast. After a diligent testing programme from late 2021 through early 2023, the car has primarily been used for promotional purposes at various Supercars events during the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship season. Making its public debut at the 2021 Repco Bathurst 1000 in a bold blue Ford livery, the car completed demonstration runs at the Great Race ahead of a busy testing schedule across 2022, as well as numerous promotional appearances at Supercars race events that season.

Importantly, this was also the first race car in the world to feature the design cues and characteristics of the 7th Generation Ford Mustang, following the road car’s global reveal in September 2022. Originally designed and tested with the body shape of the 6th Generation S550 Ford Mustang, the car was revealed with its updated bodywork at the 2022 Bathurst 1000 to much fanfare. While this car has not raced, the Gen3 Ford Mustangs built for competition in the 2023 Supercars Championship were the first 7th Generation-designed Mustangs to race among Ford’s global motorsport fleet.

This special, first-of-its-kind Australian Supercar has never raced but comes track ready including all on-track componentry that the current 11 Gen3 Ford Mustang Supercars race within the Repco Supercars Championship. A truly unique and valuable piece of Australian motor racing history, the prototype Gen3 Ford Mustang Supercar will be a feature piece of any showroom collection or track day fleet.
