1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello Manual V12 5.5L - UK Delivered - Silverstone/Crema Daytona - 6-Speed Manual - ONLY 50,900 Miles
We are extremely proud to present this exceptional opportunity to acquire one of the most coveted front-engine V12 Ferraris of the 1990s this beautifully presented 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello equipped with the highly desirable open-gate 6-speed manual transmission. Delivered new in the United Kingdom by Ferrari Concessionaires of London in November 1998 to Dr W. Killington of Mayfair, this matching-numbers example retains an impressive collection of original documentation, including its complete factory toolkit, workshop manuals, books, original leather wallet and period-correct car cover. Only 3083 examples of the 550 Maranello were built by Ferrari between 1996-2001 and ONLY 457 cars were built factory RHD, this is one of those 457 examples.
Personally imported into Australia in 2010 by its previous custodian, the 550 subsequently underwent a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic recommissioning between 2018 and 2020, with more than $120,000 invested and supported by substantial invoices and receipts. The result is an exceptionally well-presented example that has been maintained with the care and attention these hand-built Italian thoroughbreds demand.
Finished in elegant Silverstone Metallic, the exterior is complemented by the original Crema Daytona electric sports seats with Nero piping, creating one of the most timeless Ferrari colour combinations of the era. The interior remains remarkably original, with excellent switchgear and none of the sticky interior surfaces often associated with cars of this period. The two-tone Crema and Nero dashboard and rear parcel shelf complete the sophisticated cabin. The factory 19-inch Ferrari alloy wheels remain in excellent condition and are correctly shod with Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
At the heart of the 550 is Ferrari's magnificent 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, producing approximately 357kW and delivering the intoxicating soundtrack, throttle response and effortless performance that define the marque's great GT cars. Coupled to the rare and highly sought-after 6-speed gated manual gearbox, the driving experience is increasingly regarded as one of the purest expressions of Ferrari's analogue V12 era.
The Ferrari 550 Maranello was introduced in 1996 as Ferrari's return to the traditional front-engined V12 GT formula, following the legendary Testarossa and F512M era. Designed by Pininfarina and developed with extensive aerodynamic testing, the 550 combined extraordinary V12 performance with genuine long-distance touring ability. Its 5.5-litre displacement gave the model its name, while its philosophy paid homage to the legendary Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona muscular, elegant and unapologetically mechanical.
Representing a time when Ferrari still offered a naturally aspirated V12, a traditional gated manual gearbox and a level of analogue involvement that simply cannot be recreated in today's automotive landscape.
The Ferrari 550 Maranello is fast becoming recognised as one of the most significant modern-classic Ferraris of its generation, and recent auction results are certainly reinforcing that view. At the recent RM Sotheby's Monterey auction, a 550 Maranello achieved US$550,000 approx AUD$770,000 before Australian import duties, LCT/taxes and associated costs. Yes being LHD, it can also be eligible for importation into Australia under the applicable age rules.
That particular example had travelled just 5,000 miles and was finished in the stunning TDF Blue, undoubtedly contributing to its exceptional result. Our example presents a very different and equally compelling proposition ONLY 50,900 miles (but less then half the price of this RM example car), accompanied by substantial preventative maintenance and the servicing these hand-built V12 thoroughbreds demand.
Importantly, low mileage does not necessarily mean zero recommissioning. Like many Ferraris of this era, these cars benefit enormously from being driven and driven properly. A naturally aspirated V12 needs heat cycles, exercise and long journeys to remain at its best. This is not simply about owning a low-mileage Ferrari.
It is about preserving, maintaining and enjoying one of Maranello's great analogue V12 grand tourers while appreciating its growing significance within the modern-classic market. Ferrari 550 Maranello. Manual. V12. Analogue. Increasingly collectible. Some Ferraris simply get better with age.
This particular example combines the attributes serious collectors look for manual transmission, V12 engine, matching numbers, excellent provenance, extensive mechanical investment and exceptional presentation.
