1976 Ferrari 308GTB Coupe - Very Rare & Highly Collectable - Vetroresina / Dry Sump Fibreglass Body - 1 of ONLY 40 RHD examples ever built
We are truly honoured to present an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire one of the most coveted Ferraris of the 1970s—this stunning, concours-quality 1976 Ferrari 308GTB “Vetroresina,” featuring the highly desirable dry sump and lightweight fibreglass body. Delivered new in the U.K. by Ferrari Concessionaires of London in July 1976 to Mr F.G. Cambellton, this matching-numbers example is accompanied by its complete original toolkit, workshop manuals, books, original leather wallet, and period-correct Ferrari sales catalogue.
With just 712 Vetroresina examples produced globally, fewer than 150 in right-hand drive, and ONLY 40 built combining both fibreglass construction and dry sump lubrication, this represents an extraordinarily rare and highly collectible Ferrari suited to the most discerning global collections. Build #31, this is an early production vehicle showing just 12,400 miles from new, supported by documented ownership history and only three custodians in total—two of whom have resided in Australia. Included in its provenance is the original sales order, historical photographs from its partial restoration in the U.K., and records of its eight-year display at the Bridgnorth Motor Museum in England. It was subsequently entrusted to renowned Ferrari specialist Mr Nick Cartwright for comprehensive mechanical restoration.
Personally imported to Australia in the 1990s by its previous custodian, the car underwent a further restoration between 2018–2020, addressing both mechanical components and exterior presentation. Notably, the factory Sabbia leather interior remains original and untouched, aside from a period-correct Ferrari carpet set. Completing the car are its original 14-inch Campagnolo alloy wheels, fitted with correct Michelin tyres, further reinforcing its authenticity and period correctness. This is a truly exceptional 308GTB that stands as a benchmark example—well-positioned to excel at Ferrari concours and prestigious classic car events based on originality, provenance, and presentation alone.
The Pininfarina-designed 308GTB was developed to rival Porsche in both performance and market presence, and over time, the 308 Vetroresina has proven to be one of Ferrari’s most significant and defining road cars of the era—embodying Italy’s engineering excellence and design passion. Unveiled at the 1975 Paris Motor Show as a complement to the Dino 308GT4, it was penned by Leonardo Fioravanti, responsible for some of Ferrari’s most iconic designs. Early-build examples such as this are especially prized, featuring the dry sump lubrication system, single distributor, more aggressive cam profiles, and single outlet exhaust. The dry sump configuration also enabled a lower centre of gravity, enhancing handling dynamics and overall performance.
Early 308 Vetroresina models were primarily produced for the U.K. and European markets, with a stronger emphasis on performance, reflecting Ferrari’s motorsport pedigree at its core. The lightweight fibreglass construction delivers sharper handling, reduced weight, and a far more raw, engaging driving experience—qualities deeply rooted in Maranello’s DNA. Today, these cars are widely regarded as the “crown jewel” of the 308 lineage and are increasingly recognised as blue-chip collector assets.
In terms of rarity, originality, and documented provenance, this example represents a true global benchmark. Having remained within private collections for over 40 years and showing just 12,400 miles, it is quite possibly one of the lowest-mileage, most original 308GTB Vetroresina examples available anywhere in the world today. An investment-grade Ferrari of the highest calibre, destined to be appreciated for generations to come.
